Winter storms have hit parts of the Great Lakes and the northeastern United States, causing traffic paralysis and power outages in some areas. About 8,000 flights have been delayed and nearly 1,000 have been cancelled.

CNN reported that data from flight tracking platform FlightAware showed that the number of delays on domestic and inbound/inbound flights in the United States rose to about 8,000 on Saturday (December 27), and another approximately 950 flights were cancelled.

The three major airports in the New York metropolitan area were the most severely affected, and Boston Logan International Airport also reported more flight disruptions. On Friday (the 26th) local time, more than 8,500 flights were delayed and 1,700 flights were cancelled.

The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States said that on Saturday morning, flight delays at John F. Kennedy International Airport, Laguardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport were as long as two hours.

It is currently the busiest period of the American holiday season. The Transportation Security Administration of the United States predicts that 2.86 million passengers will travel on Sunday (the 28th).

The National Weather Service of the United States reported that snowfall continued in the New York metropolitan area and northeastern New Jersey early Saturday morning, but the snow intensity in other parts of the northeastern region has begun to weaken.

Trees and power lines in Michigan were under pressure due to accumulated ice, leaving more than 30,000 households and businesses without electricity on Saturday.

The cold weather in the northeastern United States has not yet ended. The National Weather Service predicts that another winter storm will sweep across the northeastern and Midwestern regions starting from Sunday, bringing snow, strong winds and rain.

The National Meteorological Bureau said that the northern part of the central and western regions and parts of the Great Lakes will be hit by snowstorms, with snowfall exceeding 30 centimeters, followed by a sudden drop in temperature to a severe cold level.
