Netanyahu urged the Lebanese authorities to disarm Hezbollah in accordance with the ceasefire terms

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu warned that if Lebanon does not force Hezbollah to disarm, Israel will exercise its right of self-defense in accordance with last year's ceasefire agreement.

Reuters reported that Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting on Sunday (November 2) that if Lebanon does not take measures to prevent its territory from becoming a new front, Israel will "take necessary actions".

Shortly after the Israel-Kazakhstan conflict broke out in early October 2023, Israel also clashed with Hezbollah until the United States facilitated a ceasefire agreement between the two sides in November last year. However, cross-border air strikes by Israel still occur from time to time.

The Israeli military stated on Sunday that it had killed four Hezbollah members. Defense Minister Katz emphasized that the Lebanese government must fulfill its commitment to disarm Hezbollah and expel it from the Lebanon region.

Katz stated that Israel will continue to strengthen law enforcement efforts and spare no effort to protect the safety of residents in the north.

According to the ceasefire agreement, Lebanon only allows its national security forces to be armed, which means Hezbollah must be completely disarmed.

Lebanese military sources disclosed that the military has blown up a large number of Hezbollah's weapons depots and is currently even facing a shortage of explosives. It is expected to complete a comprehensive clearance of the southern region by the end of the year.

Hezbollah, once the dominant party in Lebanon, has now suffered a heavy blow in the war with Israel, with thousands of armed personnel and its long-time leader Nasrallah losing their lives.

Hezbollah has publicly committed to abiding by the ceasefire agreement and has not opposed the authorities' seizure of an unmanned weapons depot in the southern region. Since the ceasefire last November, Hezbollah has not opened fire on Israel.

However, Hezbollah insists that the disarmament mentioned in the agreement text only applies to the southern region of Lebanon and implies that if the national authorities take action against Hezbollah, the conflict may reignite.
