After the US Department of Justice asked a federal judge to allow the release of the investigation files of the notorious late financier Epstein, both Republican and Democratic lawmakers believed that the move was insufficient and called for the disclosure of more relevant information.
The New York Times reported that Republican Representative Berchett of Tennessee told CNN in an interview that the Department of Justice's request for federal judges to declassive jury testimony related to Epstein "was a good start", but he later added that he still hoped to see more documents made public.
Trump said that former Democratic President Biden had the opportunity to release these materials during his tenure, and Berchett agreed. Meanwhile, he and nine other Republicans have signed a proposal to vote on whether the government should publish these files. This procedural measure requires the support of a majority of members in the House of Representatives. Berchett said he was unsure if the vote would pass.
On the other hand, Democrats seized the opportunity of the rift between Trump and his supporters to try to force a vote on the proposal to release Epstein-related documents and demand a hearing.
They also rejected Trump's attempt to shift the blame onto the Democratic Party.
Minnesota Democratic Senator Klobuchar said, "The president is blaming the Democrats for this mess, just as the CEO who was photographed hugging a female colleague at a Coldplay concert blamed Coldplay."
Byron, the married president of American technology company Astronomer, has resigned from Coldplay after being photographed hugging Cabbott, the company 's female head of personnel, during a coldplay concert.
Epstein had close ties with many prominent American political and business figures. After being arrested on suspicion of sexual crimes on July 6, 2019, he died in prison on August 10, 2019, and was convicted of "suicide". When Trump ran for president again in 2024, he promised to release Epstein's "client list" after taking office, exposing Epstein's crimes and the truth behind his death.
On July 7th of this year, the US Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a joint memorandum, determining that there was no "client list" of Epstein and that no more documents related to the Epstein case would be released. This conclusion has raised doubts and dissatisfaction within the Trump camp, and Trump has made multiple statements on this issue recently. And instructed Attorney General Bundy to release the grand jury's investigation materials on Epstein after obtaining court approval.
But some of Trump's supporters have been fiercely criticizing the government's handling of the materials related to Epstein's sex trade investigation.
