The United Arab Emirates has signed an agreement with the United States to build the largest artificial intelligence (AI) park outside the United States in this Persian Gulf country.

The New York Times reported that by continuously investing billions of dollars in the United Arab Emirates, an important oil-producing country, and striving to become a participant in the global AI field, this AI park covering an area of about 16 kilometers will help the United Arab Emirates become an emerging AI power.

US President Trump made the announcement on Thursday (May 15th) when he visited a new AI park in ABU Dhabi. The United States will supply American-made AI chips to the new AI park in the United Arab Emirates, which is the largest project of its kind outside the United States.

The new park is part of the planned AI project in the United Arab Emirates. Its power capacity will reach 5 gigawatts and it will be built by the UAE AI company G42 in collaboration with several American companies.

Trump and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed, attended the unveiling ceremony of the new park.

The Trump administration said that this project would be based on an agreement called the "U.S.-UAE AI Upgrade Partnership" to deepen cooperation between the two countries in AI. The AI chips that the United Arab Emirates will obtain will be produced by American companies such as Nvidia and AMD, which are favored by governments around the world.

In the final weeks of its administration, the Biden administration established a framework stipulating how many such chips certain countries could purchase, a decision that has deeply dissatisfied many technology companies. The Trump administration abolished this regulation and instead planned to negotiate agreements with governments of various countries to determine how many American wafers each country could obtain. At present, the United Arab Emirates seems to be the first country to finalize such an agreement with the United States.

The Trump administration said that the UAE project will assist American AI companies in providing services to customers living within approximately 3,200 kilometers of the park.
