The deputy foreign minister of Iran, Gharibabadie, said that the mine clearance operation in the Strait of Hormuz would be carried out by Iran alone.
Reuters reported that Gharabadi posted on the X platform on Monday (June 29th) saying that according to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed by Tehran and Washington, the mine clearance work in the Strait of Hormuz will be entirely handled by Iran.
The New York Times reported that Gharibadi's statement this time was a rare admission that Iran had laid mines in the strait, and it was clearly a response to French President Macron's speech on that day.
On Monday, after meeting with Sultan Hamad of Oman in Paris, Macron said that France will cooperate with Oman and other countries to clear the mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Garinabadi said that the current situation is "sensitive and complex", and strongly urged France not to take "provocative actions" that would further complicate the situation.
