Given the escalating global threats and the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, the United Kingdom, Finland and the Netherlands are considering jointly financing and procuring weapons, ammunition and military equipment.
Reuters reported that on Tuesday (March 17th), the UK issued a statement saying that these three countries are collaborating with unnamed partners to explore the establishment of a new mechanism by 2027, aimed at accelerating investment and boosting demand for defense equipment.
The mechanism that the three countries are considering will be a supplement to the existing NATO and EU initiatives.
The Dutch Finance Minister, Henning, issued a statement saying: "By working together, we can obtain greater security with the same resources, and at the same time strengthen our alliance relationship."
The British Finance Minister, Reeves, also stated that the UK needs to deepen its cooperation with its allies and strengthen its defense industry.
She will say later on Tuesday that she hopes to establish closer ties with the EU. She had previously stated that cooperation with European countries in the defense field would help enhance interoperability and improve cost-effectiveness in procurement, among other things.
