Us Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said in an interview aired Sunday that he would not run for a fourth term if he loses the November 5 election.
In an interview with Sinclair Broadcast Group television at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump was asked by host Sharyl Attkisson if he would run for president again in 2028 if he lost a third term, Reuters reported. Trump replied: "No.
"I think this will be the last time. I don't see that possibility. Hopefully we will succeed this time."
Asked if leaving the White House for four years would help him regroup and identify trusted Allies, Trump said: "If I had been re-elected... Things will be easier."
But he added that the "good thing" about his reelection loss was that it "proved how badly the Democrats did."
Trump also told Attkisson that if he is elected in November, it would be "too early to make a deal" with anyone about cabinet staffing.
Trump is in a tight race with Vice President Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate. Polls show the two in a dead heat in the key battleground states that are likely to determine the winner, though Harris has begun to lead Trump in national polls.
Trump, 78, is now the oldest presidential candidate nominated by a major U.S. political party since President Joe Biden, 81, dropped his bid for re-election in July.
