The Israeli army claimed to have killed key members of Iran's Quds Force in Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces and the General Security Directorate (Simbeit) issued a joint statement on Thursday (December 25) saying that the Israeli army killed a key member of the Quds Force, Johaili, in Lebanon on the same day.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Hussein Mahmoud Marshad al-Jawhari belongs to the combat unit "Unit 840" of the Qudhi Force, which is responsible for guiding and supervising Iran's armed activities against Israel. In recent years, Qiao Haili has been involved in planning and promoting attacks against Israel from within Syria and Lebanon.

Another statement issued earlier that day by the Israeli military and Simbet showed that the Israeli side carried out an air strike on the town of Ansariya in the southern province of Lebanon, killing Johaili.

Neither Iran nor Lebanon has responded to the Israeli statement for the time being.

Since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into effect on November 27, 2024, Israel has not only refused to withdraw its troops completely from southern Lebanon, but also frequently launched air strikes and pressured the Lebanese government on the grounds that Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, is attempting to rebuild its military strength and violate the ceasefire agreement. Recently, Israel has increased the frequency and intensity of its air strikes.

In late November, the Israeli army launched an air strike on the Lebanese capital Beirut, killing the senior Hezbollah military commander Tabatabai. The Iranian Foreign Ministry subsequently issued a statement strongly condemning Israel's actions, stating that Israel's air strikes "blatantly violated" the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel and "brutally violated" Lebanon's sovereignty.
