Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the draft peace plan discussed by the United States and Ukraine could serve as the basis for a future agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but if it doesn't work out, Russia will continue to fight.
Reuters reported that Putin said on Thursday (November 27) : "Overall, we agree that this can serve as the basis for future agreements."
Putin said that the United States has taken Russia's position into account in some aspects, but specific issues still need to be discussed, and he is ready to engage in dialogue with the United States at any time. He also said that if Europe wants Russia to commit not to attack, then Russia is willing to make such a commitment.
At present, the version of the plan discussed by the United States and Ukraine in Geneva has been transferred to Russia.
However, Putin said, "The Ukrainian army must withdraw from the territory they have occupied before the fighting stops." If they don't withdraw, we will achieve this goal by force. It's as simple as that.
He also pointed out that the Ukrainian leadership's refusal to hold elections after President Zelensky's term expired was not legitimate, and signing any documents with Ukraine was meaningless. Ukraine said earlier that elections could not be held under martial law and territorial defense.
Putin denied the claim that US special envoy Witkov was partial to Moscow in the peace talks and called it "nonsense".
The Kremlin confirmed on Wednesday (26th) that Vitkov is expected to visit Moscow next week and may meet with Putin.
