Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova again condemned Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent seriously provocative remarks regarding the Taiwan Strait situation, stating that Japan still refuses to reflect on its own mistakes.
According to Xinhua News Agency, at the Russian Foreign Ministry's regular press conference on Thursday (November 20), regarding Takaichi's blatantly provocative remarks on Taiwan and her continued refusal to retract them despite China's strong protests and representations, Zakharova commented: "Japan not only fails to reflect on the errors of its recent remarks, but also refuses to acknowledge the results of World War II even 80 years later."
Zakharova said that some countries, while loudly proclaiming their adherence to the one-China principle, are "shamelessly and continuously escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait and hindering China's peaceful reunification." These countries provide weapons to Taiwan, strengthen their military and political ties with Taiwan, incite separatist sentiment, and use the Taiwan issue as a tool to exert pressure on mainland China and conduct geopolitical containment.
Zakharova emphasized that Russia's principled position on the Taiwan issue is well-known and consistent, and that Russia strongly condemns the hypocritical stance of some countries on the Taiwan issue. She reiterated that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, and Russia opposes any form of "Taiwan independence." The Taiwan issue is China's internal affair, and China has every legitimate reason to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. She also said that as a true friend and reliable partner of China, Russia is willing to continue to firmly support China on issues of sovereignty and territorial integrity, including the Taiwan issue.
In an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency in Moscow on Tuesday (18th), Zakharova said that Japanese politicians such as Sanae Takaichi should deeply reflect on history and be wary of the serious consequences that their erroneous words and deeds may cause.
