The Hamas negotiation delegation said on Monday (August 18) that Hamas has agreed to the new Gaza ceasefire proposal put forward by the mediator.

A Hamas source told AFP on Monday: "Hamas has submitted a response to the mediator, confirming that Hamas and all factions have agreed to the new ceasefire proposal and have not requested any modifications."

Earlier on Monday, an anonymous Palestinian official told AFP that a Hamas negotiation delegation in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, had received a new Gaza ceasefire proposal from a mediator, which included a 60-day ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in two batches.

It has been revealed that this new proposal is a framework agreement aimed at initiating negotiations on a permanent ceasefire. The basis of this agreement combines the proposals respectively put forward by Egypt and the US Special envoy for the Middle East, Witkov.

Egypt demands that Hamas hand over its weapons and that the Palestinian National Authority take over the Gaza Strip. Hamas will hold internal consultations with leaders of various Palestinian factions on the new plan.
