U.S. President Donald Trump said that if the European Union does not remove tariffs on American whiskey, the United States will impose a 200 percent tariff on all wine and other alcoholic beverages from EU countries.
"The European Union, one of the most hostile and abusive tax and tariff institutions in the world, which was formed for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States, just slapped a 50 percent tariff on whiskey," Trump said in a post on the Truth Social on Thursday, according to Reuters.
"If this tariff is not removed immediately, the United States will soon impose a 200% tariff on all wine, champagne and alcoholic beverages from France and other European Union countries." That would be a great thing for wine and champagne companies in the United States."
