Israel's air strike on Doha, the capital of Qatar, has drawn international criticism, but Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that Qatar has ties with Hamas and that Israel's attack on Hamas officials in Qatar is completely justified.
AFP reported that Netanyahu said at a press conference on Tuesday (September 16) : "Qatar has ties with Hamas. It supports Hamas, shelters Hamas, and funds Hamas..." It could have exerted its powerful influence, but chose to stand by idly.
He further stated: "Therefore, our actions are completely justified."
Israel launched an air strike on Doha last week, targeting Hamas political leaders who were meeting there. This is the first time that Israel has carried out such a strike against the United States ally Qatar. The air strike killed five Hamas members and one Qatari security officer, none of whom were high-level Hamas targets targeted by the Israeli military.
In response, Qatar held an emergency meeting of Arab and Islamic leaders on Monday (the 15th), with nearly 60 countries in attendance, calling for tough action against Israel.
The Qatari side has stated that the establishment of a Hamas political office in Doha was at the request of the United States, aiming to build an indirect communication channel with Hamas. During the Israel-Kazakhstan conflict, Doha has continuously provided humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in Gaza and acted as a conflict mediator, jointly mediating ceasefire matters with the United States and Egypt.
