Us President-elect Donald Trump tweeted on social media to "save TikTok", declaring that he would issue an executive order to restore TikTok after taking office.
"Save TikTok," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social on Sunday, according to Reuters.
He also said he would issue an executive order on Monday, when he takes office, allowing TikTok to continue operating. "I ask companies not to let TikTok go black! On Monday, I will issue an executive order extending the period before the legal ban takes effect so we can reach an agreement to protect our national security. Any company that helps prevent TikTok from being taken down before I issue my order will have no liability."
He also said he wants the United States to have 50 percent ownership in the joint venture. "I want the United States to have half ownership in the joint venture so we can save TikTok, put it in reliable hands, and allow it to speak," he said. Without U.S. approval, there would be no TikTok. With our approval, it will be worth hundreds of billions of dollars, if not trillions."
Mike Johnson, the Trump-appointed White House spokesman, said Sunday that TikTok must be sold and fully separated from China, and that the United States would enforce TikTok laws.
However, Mike Waltz, Trump's national security adviser, said in an interview with CBS that Trump may need time to evaluate a deal in order to keep TikTok in the U.S. market.
Volz did not rule out continued Chinese ownership of TikTok, but said the United States would "put in place a firewall to ensure that data is protected."
"Every company in China has some kind of connection to the Chinese government. We can have an app that Americans can enjoy while protecting data and preventing outside interference."
The Trump team is working with tech companies to get TikTok back online in the United States on Monday, the sources said.
Trump said in an interview earlier that he is likely to sign an executive order on the day of his inauguration (20) to suspend TikTok's "sell or ban" law for 90 days, and said that the 90-day grace period is the most appropriate.
Bytedance's short video platform TikTok officially shut down its services in the United States at around 10:45 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday (18th) (11:45 a.m. Sunday, Singapore time), and ByteDance's overseas versions of CapCut, Lemon8, Gauth and Hypic pushed a notice to U.S. users to stop the service. Game subsidiary Mu Tong Technology also removed two mobile games.
