Iran says the United States has no right to interfere in its foreign policy and that Washington should stop killing Yemeni people. Russia urged the United States to immediately stop using force.
US President Donald Trump on Saturday directed the US military to launch large-scale military strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen and urged Iran to stop funding the group, AFP reported. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded Sunday by saying, "The U.S. government has no power and no right to interfere in Iran's foreign policy."
The Houthi-controlled health ministry said the strikes killed at least 31 people.
Alaghzi urged the United States to stop "killing the Yemeni people." In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Bargay strongly condemned the attack, calling it a disgusting act in violation of the United Nations Charter.
It is the largest military operation carried out by the US military in the Middle East since Trump took office in January. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio informed the Russians of the operation in a phone call Saturday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday that Lavrov stressed the need for an immediate end to the use of force and for all parties to engage in political dialogue to find a solution to prevent further bloodshed.
