The UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said the UN is closely following the situation in Syria and is committed to supporting a stable and inclusive transition in Syria.
Speaking to reporters in the Syrian capital Damascus on Sunday, Geir Pedersen said Syrian state institutions should be fully restored under security conditions, Xinhua reported. He said he did not want to see reprisals and needed to ensure that agencies could resume their work with the necessary security measures.
Pedersen said he hopes to speed up the lifting of sanctions against Syria and pave the way for a rapid recovery of the Syrian economy. He called on all parties to remain calm, focus on reconstruction and prioritize the well-being of ordinary Syrians. He stressed that the United Nations is committed to supporting a stable and inclusive transition in Syria to avoid further violence and ensure a better future for the country.
In an interview with Syrian television on the same day, al-Julani, the leader of the Syrian al-Sham Liberation Organization, announced a comprehensive economic and security reform plan, including raising wages, disarming all armed factions, rebuilding, and resettling displaced people.
