Overview of Ukraine's long-range Weapons: Multiple new types of missiles and drones have been put into actual combat

Ukraine launched an attack on the Russian port of Novorossiysk last week, forcing the port to suspend oil exports. Reuters reported that the Ukrainian army used the "Neptune" missile this time. This is one of the many long-range weapons independently developed and put into actual combat by Ukraine since the war broke out in 2022.

The following is an overview of some of Ukraine's new long-range weapon systems based on the information released by the Kyiv side.

Long-range cruise missile

Long Neptune: Ukraine claims that this is a ground-launched cruise missile improved from the pre-war anti-ship missile "Neptune", with a range of up to 1,000 kilometers. President Zelensky announced in March this year that his range had been extended. The Ukrainian army pointed out last Friday (November 14th) that this missile had been used to strike the Novorossiysk port, Russia's largest Black Sea export hub. Ukraine is stepping up production of more of this type of missile.

The Flamingo (also known as FP-5) is a brand-new ground-launched cruise missile. Zelensky claimed that its range was up to 3,000 kilometers and vigorously promoted it as Ukraine's "most successful missile". This weapon was developed and manufactured by the Ukrainian private defense company Fire Point and is expected to achieve mass production before the end of the year. Zelensky said in October that he had used the weapon to strike Russian targets, but did not disclose more details.

Remote attack on unmanned aerial vehicles

Lyutyi: This is a long-range propeller "one-time attack unmanned aerial vehicle" with a range of over 1,000 kilometers, produced by Antonov. It is one of the main models used by Ukraine in its deep strikes against Russia's energy infrastructure this year.

FP-1: The FP-1 long-range suicide unmanned aerial vehicle, manufactured by Fire Point, also has a range of over 1,000 kilometers and is widely used for deep strikes within Russia.

Unmanned aerial vehicle missile

Palianytsia: Known as a "drone missile", it was first put into actual combat in August 2024. This name comes from traditional Ukrainian bread. According to Ukrainian defense media Militarnyi, this drone has a range of 650 kilometers, is equipped with a turbojet engine, and can reach a maximum speed of 900 kilometers per hour, which is much faster than ordinary drones. Zelensky said in October that the weapon had hit Russian ammunition depots in dozens of missions.

Ruta: Another "drone missile". Zelensky disclosed that the weapon was first used to attack an offshore platform with a range of over 250 kilometers and is expected to enter mass production before the end of the year.

Peklo: In Ukrainian, it means "hell" and is also a type of drone missile. Zelensky said as early as December 2024 that the first batch of weapons had been delivered to the military for use. The Ukrainian Defence Express estimates its range to be approximately 700 kilometers.

Bars: In Ukrainian, it means "leopard". This is a new type of drone missile that was only made public in April this year. The Ukrainian military said last week that it had used it to launch attacks on Russian military targets.
