The United Nations has warned that the Israeli-Kazakhstan war has severely damaged Gaza's economy and threatened its survival foundation, calling on the international community to "take substantive intervention measures immediately".
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released a report on Tuesday (November 25) saying that the reconstruction cost of the Gaza Strip will exceed 70 billion US dollars and may take decades.
The report warns that the war and various restrictive measures have triggered Gaza's economy to "fall into an unprecedented total collapse".
The report points out that military operations have severely weakened every pillar of survival, from food, housing to healthcare, "pushing Gaza into a man-made abyss".
This continuous and systematic destruction has cast a major shadow over whether Gaza can once again exist as a livable space and society.
The report points out that the devastating damage suffered by the Gaza Strip has "triggered a chain of crises at the economic, humanitarian, environmental and social levels, causing it to regressed from development and collapse completely."
The report also said that even in the optimistic scenario of a significant increase in foreign aid and a double-digit economic growth rate, it would take Gaza decades to return to the welfare level before October 2023.
UNCTAD called for the formulation of a "comprehensive recovery plan" that combines coordinated international assistance, the resumption of financial transfer payments, and measures to ease restrictions on trade, personnel movement and investment.
