Iranian President: Refuses US Demand and will not exchange enriched uranium for a "moratorium on sanctions"

Iran has rejected the US demand to exchange all enriched uranium for a three-month "moratorium on sanctions" against it.

Xinhua News Agency quoted a report from the Islamic Republic News Agency of Iran as saying that Iranian President Pezehizyan said in an interview with reporters before leaving New York for his home country after attending the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday (September 27) that during the UN General Assembly, Iran held consultations with several European countries and reached certain results, but the US side demanded that Iran hand over all its enriched uranium. In exchange for a three-month "moratorium on sanctions", this is "absolutely unacceptable".

Pezehizyan also said that Iran has made necessary arrangements to deal with the activation of the "rapid resumption of sanctions" mechanism.

Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday saying that due to the "irresponsible approach" taken by the UK, France and Germany in using the dispute settlement mechanism of the Iran nuclear deal and promoting the restoration of the UN Security Council's sanctions against Iran that had been terminated, Iran has recalled its ambassadors to the three countries for consultation.

The Security Council voted on a draft resolution on Friday (26th) aimed at extending the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue and Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the agreement, but it was not adopted. The draft resolution was proposed by China and Russia. If adopted, the Iran nuclear deal and Security Council Resolution 2231 will be extended for six months. During this period, all parties can reach a compromise through diplomatic negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Minister Aragzi criticized the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany for not passing the draft resolution when attending the Security Council meeting on the same day. He pointed out that all nuclear-related restrictions stipulated in Resolution 2231 must expire permanently by the agreed date of October 18, 2025, and Iran will not recognize any attempt to update, restore or implement these restrictions after this date.

On August 28, the participants of the Iran nuclear deal, namely the United Kingdom, France and Germany, informed the UN Security Council that they had initiated a "rapid resumption of sanctions" mechanism on the grounds that Iran had violated the nuclear deal. Under this mechanism, unless the Security Council passes a resolution to continue lifting sanctions against Iran, the UN sanctions imposed on Iran before 2015 will be reinstated within 30 days.
