The Israeli military said on Sunday that it had carried out an air strike on the headquarters of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' aerospace unit.

AFP reported that the Israeli military issued a statement on Sunday (March 8th) saying that it had carried out an attack on what the Iranian Revolutionary Guard called the "headquarters of the space force" in Tehran.

"As part of the air strike operation, the Israeli forces targeted and destroyed the headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's aerospace unit, which was under the Iranian terrorist regime."

The statement claims that this headquarters is the receiving, transmitting and research center of the Iranian Space Agency. This base includes research facilities as well as the command and control center for Iran's Khayyam satellite. The Khayyam satellite is alleged to be used for "monitoring Israel and its residents".

A reporter from Agence France-Presse reported that explosions were heard in several areas of Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Sunday, but the specific targets of the attacks remain unknown.
