Poll: More than half of American voters believe that Trump has overly expanded executive power

According to a poll by The New York Times and Siena College, American voters believe that President Trump has gone too far in expanding executive power and have expressed high doubts about some key elements on his agenda.

The New York Times reported on Friday (April 25) that the results of a poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College from April 21 to 24 showed that 66% of American voters thought Trump's second term was "chaotic", 59% thought it was "terrifying", and another 42% said it was "exciting".

People are increasingly skeptical of Trump's measures to expand his power and his handling of issues such as the economy and immigration, which have long been regarded as his strong points.

Trump's approval rating is only 42%. For a US President who has been in office for less than 100 days, Trump's approval rating has hit a record low. Although this was in line with his usual unpopularity, it did not prevent him from sweeping all the battleground states in last year's presidential election.

However, at present, the confidence of American voters in Trump's handling of some major issues that will bring him back to the White House, including his handling of economic and immigration issues, is weakening. Although most Americans support the deportation of immigrants. However, only 43% of the voters approved of Trump's economic management approach, seriously weakening the policies that have long been regarded as Trump's advantages.

The extensive tariff policy implemented by Trump was opposed by 55% of voters, including 63% of independent voters.

Overall, the results of this survey indicate that the honeymoon period of Trump's second term has come to an end. His approval rating among key independent voters is currently only 29%.

Most voters said that Trump "went too far" on a series of issues such as tariffs, immigration enforcement and cutting the workforce of federal agencies. A large number of independent voters and Democrats think that he has gone too far.

Overall, 54% of the respondents in the poll said that Trump exceeded the powers conferred upon him by the presidency, and 16% of Republicans and 62% of independent voters held the same view.

But for some of Trump's die-hard supporters, chaos and the refusal to stick to conventions are precisely what make Trump so charming.

Among the voters who support Trump, nearly half also think that the situation in recent months has been very chaotic. However, about 40% of Republican voters said that Trump should have the right to take what they consider the best measures, even if these measures might violate the existing rules. While 8% of the voters who support Trump said that Trump's actions "pose a unique threat to our government system".
