The Trump administration plans to increase funding next year to strengthen its crackdown on immigration

Despite the growing opposition as the midterm elections draw near, US President Trump still plans to invest a large amount of money next year to launch a more severe crackdown on immigration.

Reuters reported that the Republican-controlled Congress passed a huge spending plan in July this year. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol forces will receive an additional $170 billion in funds until September 2029.

This fund represents a significant increase from ICE's existing annual budget of approximately 19 billion US dollars.

Government officials said that in the future, they plan to hire thousands more law enforcement officers, build new detention centers, receive more immigrants from local prisons, and cooperate with external companies to track down people without legal status.

The Trump administration has dispatched more immigration law enforcement officers to several major cities in the United States this year. The law enforcement officers have carried out surprise operations in communities and have successively clashed with residents.

Federal law enforcement officers also carried out high-profile raids on some businesses, but basically avoided farms, factories and other enterprises. Although these enterprises employ immigrants without legal status, they have significant economic value.

The tough law enforcement of the Trump administration has aroused the resentment and protests of people everywhere, and the opposition has been growing louder and louder. However, the government still decided to expand the crackdown.

Miami has a large immigrant population and thus has become a severely affected area by Trump's policies. Last week, Miami elected its first Democratic mayor in nearly 30 years. The elected mayor indicated that the election result was partly due to the public's response to the president's policies.

Elections and polls in other places show that voters' concerns over tough immigration strategies are growing.

Moderate Republican political strategist Madrid pointed out: "The public is beginning to realize that this is no longer just an immigration issue, but a violation of rights, a tramples on due process, and the act of a militarized community that violates the constitution." This is undoubtedly a problem for the president and the Republican Party.

Since Trump began his second presidential term on January 20 this year, about 622,000 immigrants have been deported.

White House Border Affairs Director Horman told Reuters that Trump has kept his promise and carried out a historic deportation operation, closing the illegal immigration channel at the US-Mexico border while eliminating criminals.

He also said that after ICE uses the new funds to hire more police officers and expand detention capacity, the number of arrests next year will increase sharply.
