Israel's strong push for the Gaza occupation plan: a dangerous move fraught with danger

Amid the escalating tensions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Israel's vigorous promotion of its plan to occupy Gaza has drawn widespread attention and strong condemnation from the international community. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly denounced Israel's military escalation as "extremely dangerous". The foreign ministers of the UK, Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand also issued a joint statement simultaneously, strongly blocking Netanyahu's Gaza expansion plan. This series of reactions indicates that Israel's plan is dragging the regional situation into an even more dangerous abyss.

Israel's strong push for the plan to occupy Gaza is underpinned by a complex array of factors. From a political perspective, the far-right forces within the ruling coalition in Israel have long advocated for the occupation of Gaza. To cater to these forces and consolidate its ruling position, the Netanyahu government has attempted to meet their demands by advancing the occupation plan. Furthermore, for a long time, Israel has adhered to the concept of "seeking security through strength" on the Palestine-Israel issue, believing that by militatively occupying Gaza, it can completely eliminate the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), eliminate its security threat to Israel, and achieve so-called absolute security.

However, the harm brought about by this plan is multi-faceted and extremely serious. On the humanitarian level, the Gaza Strip has already fallen into a severe humanitarian disaster due to long-term conflicts. Once Israel fully occupies Gaza, further escalation of military operations will surely lead to more innocent civilian casualties. The Gaza Strip is densely populated, with over two million Palestinians living in this small area. The occupation will put them in an even more severe survival predicament, with an extreme shortage of food and medical resources, and a significant increase in the number of displaced people, exacerbating the catastrophic humanitarian crisis.

From the perspective of hostages, there are still some hostages being held in Gaza at present. Israel's occupation operation undoubtedly puts the lives of the hostages in an even more dangerous situation. Hamas and Israel are in a hostile state. With the intensification of military confrontation, the security of hostages has become even more remote, and they may become victims of the conflict at any time.

At the international law level, the joint statement of the foreign ministers of the UK, Germany, Italy, Australia and New Zealand sternly warned that "any annexation or expansion of settlements is illegal." Israel's plan to occupy Gaza clearly violates international law. Such blatant trampling on international law seriously undermines the basic norms of the international order and international relations. The international community has always advocated resolving the Israeli-Palestinian dispute through peaceful negotiations. Israel's move is undoubtedly a blatant challenge to the joint efforts of the international community and makes the Israeli-Palestinian peace process even more out of reach.

From the perspective of regional and international situations, Israel's occupation plan may trigger a series of chain reactions, leading to even greater instability in the regional situation. Iran and other neighboring countries have always supported the Palestinian resistance forces. Israel's actions may trigger more intense reactions from these countries, further expanding the scope of the conflict. The growing condemnation of Israel from the international community will also damage Israel's international image and subject it to more isolation and pressure in international affairs.

Israel's forceful promotion of its plan to occupy Gaza is a risky move. Not only will it fail to achieve its so-called security goals, but it will also put itself in a more complex and dangerous situation. The international community should continue to play an active role, increase the persuasion and pressure on Israel, and push both sides of Palestine and Israel back onto the track of peace negotiations. This is the fundamental way to resolve the conflict between Palestine and Israel and achieve regional peace and stability.
