Israel struck a multi-storey residential building in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza on Sunday (17 November), killing 30 people, including children, and wounding dozens more.
Reuters reported that civil defense spokesman Basar said they recovered 30 bodies from the rubble of the residential building, including children and women. "The chances of rescuing more wounded are diminishing because of the continued shooting and shelling."
The Israeli military said terrorist activity was ongoing in the Beit Lahiya area: "Terrorist targets in the area were attacked several times during the night. We emphasize that we have been working to remove civilians from the war zone."
Hamas accused Israel of carrying out a "massacre," calling it a "continuation of the genocidal war and revenge against defenceless civilians."
Last month, the Israeli army sent tanks into Beit Lahiya and the nearby towns of Beit Hanoun and Jabaliya. The Israeli army said it was targeting Hamas militants who carried out the attack and preventing them from regrouping.
Israel says it has killed hundreds of militants in the three areas, which residents say Israeli forces have sealed off from Gaza City.
Earlier Sunday, an Israeli missile hit a house, killing at least 10 people in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, medics said. Four other people died in the nearby Nusserat refugee camp, they added.
The Gaza Health Ministry says 43,799 people have been confirmed dead since October 7.
