Donald Trump mocks Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as US 'governor'

Us President-elect Donald Trump has mocked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the "governor" of the United States.

"I had the pleasure of having dinner with Canadian Governor Justin Trudeau the other night," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social Social platform on Tuesday, AFP reported.

He then added, "I look forward to seeing the governor again soon so that we can continue our advanced negotiations on tariffs and trade, and the outcome of those negotiations will be fantastic for all!"

During a meeting with Trudeau in Florida on Nov. 29, Trump reportedly suggested making Canada the 51st U.S. state.

Trump recently said that unless Canada stops the flow of migrants and drugs across the border, the United States will impose a 25% tariff on Canadian imports. Canada exports 75 percent of its goods and services to the United States, and tariffs would seriously hurt the Canadian economy.

According to Fox News, Trump has told Trudeau that Canada should be incorporated into the United States if it cannot withstand the tariffs the United States plans to impose.

In public, however, both Mr. Trump and Mr. Trudeau described their meeting as going well.

Trump said at the time that the two had a "very productive" meeting; Trudeau also said he looked forward to cooperation between the two countries and "thanked President Trump for the dinner." Again, I look forward to working together."
