Us President-elect Donald Trump has renewed his threat to "take back" the Panama Canal, while saying the crisis in Ukraine "must end" and looking forward to meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin on the issue.

Xinhua reported that Trump delivered a speech lasting about 75 minutes at an event in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday (December 22), touching on a variety of topics. He again cited the Panama Canal, saying the United States was being "blackmailed," and reiterated that the United States wants to "take back" control of the canal.

On Saturday, Trump said on social media that the Panama Canal was an "important national asset of the United States" and threatened that the United States would "take back" the Panama Canal. In response, Panamanian President Jose Manuel Mulino said in a statement Sunday that the Panama Canal and its adjacent areas will always belong to Panama, and that Panama's sovereignty and independence are not negotiable.

Referring to the Ukraine crisis, Trump said: "One thing I want to do very quickly, Putin has said he wants to meet with me very soon and we look forward to that meeting, we have to end this war."

Speaking about the short video social media platform TikTok, Trump said he was inclined to allow TikTok to continue operating in the United States for a while. "We have received good feedback on this platform, with billions of views. Maybe we should keep it around a little longer."

Trump also said that he would change the highest mountain in the United States, Denali in Alaska, back to its former name, McKinley.

The mountain was named in 1896 for Republican William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States. In 2015, the Obama administration renamed it "Denali Mountain" based on the language spoken by Alaska Natives.
