Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to southern Lebanon indicates that the fighting is far from over

Lebanese Prime Minister Salam said that he was making efforts to stop the war between Israel and Hezbollah; meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited the southern part of Lebanon and addressed the troops stationed there, saying that the fighting in the region was far from over.

AFP reported that Salam said in a television speech on Sunday (April 12th): "We will continue to strive to end this war and ensure that Israel withdraws from all of our territories."

He also said: "We are continuing to strive... to end the war through negotiations."

Previously, officials from Lebanon, Israel and the United States had planned to hold a meeting in Washington on Tuesday (the 14th).

However, Netanyahu said on Sunday while inspecting the Israeli forces stationed in southern Lebanon that the Israeli army has eliminated the threat of the Hezbollah militants' invasion, but he added: "There is still more work to be done. We are working hard."

Netanyahu also said in a video released in the office: "The war is still ongoing, including in the safe zones of Lebanon."

Israeli officials have repeatedly stated that Israel hopes to establish a "safe zone" in southern Lebanon in order to help prevent attacks by Hezbollah.

The Lebanese state news agency (NNA) reported that Israel launched attacks on dozens of locations in the south on Sunday and also carried out an attack on the nearby Sabka area.

The Lebanese Red Cross said in a statement that the rescue team "was directly attacked by Israeli drones" while carrying out humanitarian tasks, despite the fact that "the ambulances and staff were all marked with the Red Cross symbol". This is the second case of a Lebanese Red Cross volunteer being killed in the past few weeks.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon also stated that an Israeli tank had twice rammed into the vehicles of the troops, "with one of these incidents causing significant damage."

The Lebanese Ministry of Health has revised the death toll caused by the war to over 2,050, including 165 children and more than 80 medical staff.
