Despite the ruling on tariff violations, the US trade representative said it would continue trade negotiations

U.S. Trade Representative Greer said on Sunday (August 31) that despite the U.S. appellate court's ruling that most of President Trump's tariffs are illegal, the Trump administration is still continuing negotiations with trading partners.

Reuters reported that Greer said in an interview with Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends" program: "Our trading partners will continue to work closely with us in negotiations." No matter what ruling the court makes during this period, we are moving forward with the agreement.

Greer did not disclose which countries the United States is still negotiating with, but he said he had spoken with a trade secretary on Saturday morning (the 30th).

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled on Friday (29th) by a 7-4 vote that most of Trump's tariffs were illegal, mainly involving reciprocal tariffs in April and tariffs imposed on China, Canada and Mexico in February.

The court pointed out that the law cited by Trump does not grant him unlimited power to impose taxes on almost all American imports.

Trump severely criticized the ruling and indicated that he would submit the case to the US Supreme Court. The appellate court pointed out that his tariff measures could last until October 14 for appeal.
