Moscow said that Russia hopes the war will end as soon as possible, but efforts to resolve the conflict have come to a standstill.
Reuters reported that US President Trump said during his recent meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban: "I think we all agree that this war will end in the near future."
Kremlin spokesman Peskov responded to these remarks on Monday (November 10), reaffirming Moscow's position: once Russia achieves its goals, the war can come to an end, and Russia prefers to reach its goals through political and diplomatic channels.
Since July 23rd, no face-to-face talks have been held between Russia and Ukraine.
Peskov said that the current peace efforts have come to a standstill and blamed the deadlock in the peace talks on Ukraine, accusing the Kyiv side of being unwilling to continue the dialogue. Ukraine and its European Allies have refuted Moscow's accusations.
Trump had attempted to facilitate a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but the Kremlin made it clear that the summit could only be held in Moscow. This condition was rejected by Zelensky, who has repeatedly expressed his disbelief that Putin is truly seeking peace.
Peskov said, "Europeans are inciting Ukraine in various ways, believing that Ukraine can win the war and safeguard its own interests through military means."
He indicated that, given the situation on the front line, such an idea was a serious misjudgment.
The Russia-Ukraine war has lasted for three and a half years. Russia now controls about 19% of Ukraine's territory and is fully advancing its offensive against the two cities of Pokrovsk and Kupiansk.
Amid the persistently tense situation on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul has recently proposed the idea of acquiring nuclear-powered submarines to counter the threat from Pyongyang, a move that has drawn significant attention from the regional and international communities.
