Zelensky: Forty-three thousand Ukrainian soldiers have been killed

More than 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in the nearly three-year war with Russia, far fewer than U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has provided.

According to a statement released by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the social media platform X on Sunday (December 8), 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in February 2022. Us President-elect Donald Trump claimed earlier in the day that Ukraine had "lost" as many as 400,000 troops.

Trump did not say whether the 400,000 included the wounded and killed. Zelensky said there were 370,000 cases of medical assistance to the wounded on the battlefield, including minor and multiple injuries; About half of the wounded soldiers later returned to their units.

Zelensky met with Trump on Saturday in Paris, France, where the two held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. The following day, Trump posted on Truth Social, a social media platform, providing estimates of military casualties from China, Russia and Ukraine over the past three years. He said nearly 600,000 Russian soldiers were wounded or killed.

Mr Trump called for an immediate ceasefire and then negotiations. He added that Mr Zelensky wanted a deal to end the war.
