The Israeli army has once again bombed the southwestern region, claiming to be targeting Hezbollah

After the elected representatives of Israel and Lebanon held their first direct dialogue in decades, the Israeli army launched a new round of air strikes in southern Lebanon, claiming that the targets were Hezbollah strongholds.

AFP reported that the Israeli military launched strikes on Hezbollah targets in Mahrouna and Jbaa of Lebanon on Thursday (December 4) and issued evacuation orders to local residents before the operation began.

The Lebanese National News Agency said that Israeli warplanes launched air strikes on Mahluna, and other targets of the air strikes were buildings in Jeba, Majadal and Baraasheet.

Israel and Hezbollah reached a ceasefire agreement in November 2024. This move was supposed to end the year-long hostility between the two sides, but Israel continued to carry out air strikes on Lebanon afterwards and maintained troops in the five strategic locations it identified.

The Lebanese government promised to disarm Hezbollah, but the latter refused to do so. Many people are worried that Israel might resume large-scale military operations.

The day before the Israeli army launched its latest air strike, civilian representatives from both Lebanon and Israel held a rare meeting in Nakula, Lebanon, which is adjacent to the Israeli border, under the coordination of the ceasefire monitoring mechanism of the UN peacekeeping forces.
