German Chancellor Angela Scholz will call a vote of confidence in December

German Chancellor Angela Scholz will launch a vote of confidence in the Bundestag in December, with the vote scheduled for December 16, the head of the Social Democratic group in the lower house of parliament, Mitzenich, announced on Tuesday.

Xinhua News Agency reported that due to the lack of "trust foundation for cooperation", Scholz announced on November 6 that the Free Democratic Party chairman Lindner was sacked as finance minister, and then the Free Democratic Party announced its withdrawal from the current coalition government. That meant the collapse of the ruling coalition between Scholz's Social Democrats and the FDP and Greens.

German media analysis said that Scholz, who currently leads a minority government, may not be able to get a majority of the votes to pass the confidence vote.

According to the agreement between the SPD and the opposition coalition party, if the confidence vote is not passed, Schulz will recommend that the president dissolve parliament and bring forward the Bundestag election scheduled for September 28 next year to February 23.

According to Germany's Basic Law, if the government fails to win a vote of confidence, the president may dissolve the Bundestag on the recommendation of the chancellor and call new elections within 60 days of the dissolution.
