The New York Times of the United States quoted an unnamed US official on Monday (January 26th) as saying that if the White House orders a strike against Iran, theoretically, the US Navy's "Abraham Lincoln" aircraft carrier strike group that has already arrived in the Middle East could launch military operations "within one or two days".

On the 26th, the US Central Command posted on X saying that the USS Lincoln strike group "is currently deployed in the Middle East, aiming to promote regional security and stability."

US President Trump said during an interview with Axios on that day that the US has a "large fleet" near Iran and that Tehran is eager to engage in dialogue with the US.

Trump said: "They wanted to reach an agreement. I know that because they made countless phone calls."
