Months after reaching a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Israeli military announced on Tuesday (July 15) that Israeli warplanes launched multiple rounds of air strikes on the Bekaa region in eastern Lebanon on the same day, targeting facilities related to Hezbollah's frontline elite Radwan Force.
The Israel Defense Forces stated in a statement that the military facilities that were attacked were mainly used for training, planning and carrying out attacks against Israeli soldiers and the country. The military said that it had launched military operations in Beirut and Lebanon last September, eliminating many senior commanders of the unit, but the Radwan unit has continued to rebuild its armed capabilities since then.
The Israeli side emphasized that Hezbollah's storage of weapons and conduct of military activities in the above-mentioned area have seriously violated the previous ceasefire agreement between the two sides and pose a "future threat" to Israel.
According to the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, Hezbollah should withdraw its armed forces to the north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the Israeli-Lebanon border, and only allow the Lebanese government forces and UN peacekeeping forces to be deployed in the area. However, Israel claims that Hezbollah has not kept its promise and has continued to operate near the border.
Although the agreement was originally intended to end the border conflict that had lasted for more than a year, including the two-month-long all-out war, Israel has launched multiple air strikes on Lebanon since the agreement came into effect, indicating that the ceasefire agreement has become ineffective.
According to the agreement, Israel is supposed to completely withdraw all its military positions from Lebanon, but it still maintains its military presence in five "strategic locations" at present.
