At least 11 people have been wounded in a New Year's Day shooting outside a nightclub in Queens, New York.

According to US media reports, the shooting took place at around 11.20pm on Wednesday (January 1) (12pm Singapore time Thursday) near the Amazura nightclub on Jamaica Street.

New York police confirmed that six people were shot inside the nightclub and others were shot in nearby streets. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The NYPD has not released details about the incident. The condition of the injured was not immediately known.

Authorities have identified a white BMW that may be involved in the shooting and are investigating further.

Police are blocking off nearby roads, and authorities have found a number of bullet casings at various locations.

A manhunt is underway after the suspected shooter fled the scene.
