A British commentator who was on a speech tour in the United States was detained and had his visa revoked by the US immigration agency.

Reuters reported that US Department of Homeland Security spokesperson McLaughlin said in a statement on social media platform X on Sunday (October 26) that British commentator Sami Hamdi would be deported.

She said, "Under the leadership of US President Trump, those who support terrorism and undermine US national security will not be allowed to work or visit the United States."

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a statement saying that Hamdi delivered a speech at the CAIR celebration event held in Sacramento, California on the 25th. And plans to give a speech at another CAIR event in Florida on Sunday.

CAIR said Hamdi was detained by authorities at San Francisco International Airport.

Conservatives have been urging the Trump administration to deport Hamdi.

Hamdi once worked as an analyst and commentator for British television networks. CAIR called on the Department of Homeland Security to release him and accused the Trump administration of detaining Hamdi for his criticism of the Israeli government.

Reuters was unable to get in touch with Hamdi. Mitchell, the deputy director of CAIR, said that Hamdi had previously denied supporting Islamic radicals, and CAIR's lawyers had still not been able to contact him by Sunday night.
