Israeli Defense Minister Katz ordered the military on Sunday (June 8) to prevent the aid ship Madleen from arriving in the Gaza Strip, which was carrying 12 activists, including Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. Facing the obstruction of the Israeli army, the activists on the ship took a tough stance and vowed to continue sailing until the "last minute".
Last week, the Madeleine set off from Sicily for Gaza carrying relief supplies such as baby milk powder, flour and medical supplies to "break the Israeli blockade on Gaza". Katz ordered the military to stop the ship on Sunday and asked it to turn around and leave "because you can't reach Gaza".
But European Parliament member Rima Hassan told AFP on the ship: "We will continue to mobilize until the last minute until Israel cuts off the Internet and networks." She emphasized: "There are only 12 civilians on the ship. We have no weapons." There is only humanitarian aid here.
Yasemin Acar, a German human rights activist who was also on the ship, said, "We are not afraid of them." The message they conveyed to us - that we can no longer get close to Gaza - has not made us back down.
The non-profit organization Freedom Flotilla Coalition, which arranged this voyage, posted on social media platform X, calling on the governments of the countries to which the activists on board belong to provide protection for them, and said that Israel might intercept or attack the ship at any time.
In addition to Sweden and Germany, the ship also carried citizens of France, Brazil, Turkey, Spain and the Netherlands.
