Hamas condemned the US plan to take over Gaza: Gaza is not for sale

The Trump administration in the United States is said to be considering a plan to take over Gaza, which Hamas has condemned.

The Washington Post reported on Sunday (August 31) that the Trump administration is considering converting the Gaza Strip, which has a population of about 2 million, into a U.S. trusteeship for at least 10 years. The 38-page plan outline states that the goal of this move is to transform Gaza into a tourist destination and a high-tech center.

The outline of the plan also requires that at least all residents of Gaza be temporarily relocated, including by "voluntarily" to other countries or by being resettled in controlled safe areas within Gaza.

Hamas Political Bureau clerk Naem strongly condemned the proposal on Monday (September 1st), emphasizing that "Gaza is not for sale." He said, "Gaza is..." A part of the broader Palestinian homeland."

Trump first proposed the idea of taking over Gaza in February this year, planning to turn it into "the Riviera of the Middle East" (an Italian word meaning a seaside resort) after the local Palestinian residents were relocated and it was placed under US control.

Arab countries immediately expressed their condemnation, and Palestinians also strongly opposed it.

Another Hamas official told AFP that Hamas "rejects all plans to abandon our people and allow the occupsmen to continue occupying our land."

Qasim, a 37-year-old Palestinian living in a tent in the Mar district of Gaza City in the central Gaza Strip, told AFP that the US proposal to take over Gaza in the report is sheer nonsense: "If we really want to aid Gaza, the method is clear: pressure (Israeli Prime Minister) Netanyahu to stop the war and killing."
