Hamas is ready to negotiate the details of a second phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
Two Hamas officials said Monday that Hamas signaled its readiness to begin negotiations on the second phase of a Gaza truce during communications and talks with Egyptian mediators in Cairo last week. Hamas called on the mediators to ensure that Israel abides by the agreement without delay.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which came into effect on January 19, has three phases. The first phase lasted 42 days and the two sides have so far exchanged several rounds of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees. The second phase is expected to demand the release of the remaining hostages and discuss a permanent end to the war.
