Flights in Belgium have been grounded due to a nationwide strike

A nationwide strike broke out in Belgium on Tuesday (October 14th) due to the government's cost-cutting plan, resulting in flight cancellations and disruptions to public transportation. It is expected that tens of thousands of people will participate in the demonstration in Brussels.

AFP reported that all departing flights at Brussels Airport, Belgium's largest airport, were cancelled due to a strike by security personnel. Brussels Nans-le-Rois Airport also said that it was unable to operate any flights due to a shortage of staff.

Facing a huge budget deficit that violates EU regulations, the government plans to reform the pension system and implement other cost-cutting measures, a move that has enraged trade unions.

The trade union organization CSC said, "The government's promise to create more sustainable jobs and enhance purchasing power is all empty talk!" In the end, it is not the rich who pay the price, but all others.

The trade union expects tens of thousands of people to attend a rally in Brussels on Wednesday (the 15th), while the capital's metro, tram and bus services have also been affected by delays and cancellations.

The police suggest that citizens avoid going to some areas of the city center and instead travel by car.

This protest action will increase the pressure on the Dwecver government. The coalition government failed to reach an agreement on the budget on Monday (the 13th), forcing the prime minister to postpone the important speech originally scheduled to be delivered to Parliament on Tuesday.

The trade union strongly opposes several reforms planned by the government, including cutting early retirement benefits and freezing the wage indexation mechanism.

Brussels is seeking to save about 10 billion euros in spending while committing to increasing defense spending in response to the arms upgrade plan promoted by NATO.
