US President Trump warned Cuba, "Hurry up and reach an agreement to avoid regretting it." The President of Cuba responded that Cuba is a sovereign state and does not accept orders from anyone.
According to reports from the BBC and AFP, Trump posted on social media on Sunday (January 11th), threatening to cut off the flow of oil and funds from Venezuela to Cuba.
Trump said that Cuba has relied on the large amount of oil and funds provided by Venezuela for survival for many years. In return, Cuba provided "security services" to Venezuela. Trump said that this relationship "has now come to an end" and there will be no more oil or funds flowing into Cuba.
He also threatened Cuba to reach an agreement as soon as possible, otherwise it would face serious consequences, but he did not specify what agreement he demanded Cuba to reach.
According to Xinhua News Agency, in response to Trump's threatening remarks, Cuban President Diaz Canel said on the 11th that Cuba is a free and independent sovereign state, and "those who treat everything as a business, even trading human lives, have no right to tell Cuba what to do."
Diaz-canel said on social media that Cuba does not accept orders from anyone. The Cuban people have chosen their own political path, and some people have thus become "furious" and attacked Cuba.
Diaz-canel said that some people blamed the revolution for Cuba's economic predicament and they should feel ashamed. In fact, these people know that the current predicament is the result of the extreme blockade and suppression imposed by the United States on Cuba over the past 60-plus years, and the United States is still going even further.
Diaz-canel emphasized that Cuba will not actively attack or threaten any country, but is ready to defend every inch of its territory.
