Israeli troops attacked a town in southern Lebanon at night and killed a municipal worker who was sleeping in the city hall.
Reuters, citing Lebanese state media, reported on Thursday (October 30) that Israeli troops entered the city of Boulida at 1:30 a.m. on the same day, stormed into the city hall and killed municipal worker Ibrahim Salameh who was sleeping. They did not withdraw until about 4 a.m.
The Israeli military confirmed the incident, saying that troops opened fire during a night operation with the aim of destroying the infrastructure of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in the south. An Israeli military spokesperson said, "During the operation, the authorities discovered an immediate threat to the troops, which is why they opened fire."
He added that the authorities were reviewing the incident.
Lebanese Prime Minister Salam condemned this, describing it as a "blatant attack on Lebanon's state institutions and sovereignty".
Lebanese President Aoun also ordered the military to respond to any Israeli invasion in southern Lebanon.
Despite the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hezbollah nearly a year ago, the Israeli army has continued to carry out air strikes and some ground operations within Lebanon.
