After nearly three months, the Democratic Republic of the Congo declared the end of the Ebola epidemic

The authorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) announced that the Ebola outbreak, which lasted for nearly three months, has come to an end.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Samuel Roger Kamba, the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, announced in the capital Kinshasa on Monday (December 1st) that the Ebola epidemic that began in September this year in the country has ended.

The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported on September 4 that an Ebola outbreak had occurred in the central Kasai Province. This is the 16th time that the Democratic Republic of the Congo has experienced an Ebola outbreak since 1976.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa also issued a statement on Monday, saying that the last patient infected with the Ebola virus in this round of the epidemic recovered and was discharged from the hospital on October 19. During the 42-day monitoring period that followed, no new cases were reported in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, marking the end of this round of the epidemic.

During the epidemic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported a total of 64 cases, including 53 confirmed cases and 11 suspected cases, among which 45 cases have died. More than 47,500 people in the local area have received the Ebola vaccine.

The World Health Organization's Regional Office for Africa's bulletin stated that although the current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has ended, related monitoring work is still ongoing.

The Ebola virus can cause Ebola hemorrhagic fever. It is mainly contracted through contact with the blood, body fluids, secretions, and excretions of infected or infected animals. The clinical manifestations mainly include fever, bleeding, and multiple organ damage, with a mortality rate as high as 50% to 90%.
