Iraqi Shiite armed groups have warned that if the United States intervenes in the military conflict between Israel and Iran, it will attack American targets in the region.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the Iranian-backed militia group Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq issued a statement on Sunday (June 15) saying that the group would launch attacks on the interests of the United States in the Middle East, including military bases, "without hesitation".

The statement also called for the closure of the US embassy in Iraq and the expulsion of the US troops stationed in Iraq, "because they are the most obvious and serious threat to Iraq's security and regional stability".

The US Embassy in Iraq issued a security alert on the same day, urging American citizens in Iraq to avoid going to places frequented by foreigners and any large gatherings or crowded places.

On January 28, 2024, a US military base in Jordan was attacked by a drone, killing three soldiers and injuring over 40 others. The US side identified the Iraqi "Al-Allah Brigade" as involved in this attack and launched a drone attack on a vehicle in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, in February of the same year, killing three people, including a senior commander of the "Al-Allah Brigade".
