Xinhua News Agency quoted Iran's state-run TV as reporting on Friday (May 8th) early in the morning that after several hours of firefights between Iran and the United States, the situation along the Iranian islands and coastal cities along the Strait of Hormuz has returned to normal.

The report did not provide further details on the specific circumstances of the previous clashes.

The US Central Command issued a statement on the 7th, saying that three US Navy missile destroyers intercepted an unprovoked attack by Iran while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz towards the Gulf of Oman, and retaliated with self-defense strikes.

US President Trump later posted on the social media platform Truth Social, saying: "Three world-class US destroyers have just successfully sailed out of the Strait of Hormuz under artillery fire. The three destroyers were not damaged, but the Iranian attackers suffered huge losses."
