US President Trump said that he "100%" would carry out the tariff measures he had imposed on eight European countries that opposed the US's control of Greenland, and refused to rule out the possibility of seizing Greenland by force.

The BBC reported that on Monday (January 19th), Trump said that starting from February 1st, the United States would impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from the UK. The tariff rate would be raised to 25% from June 1st until an agreement is reached between the US and Denmark to purchase Greenland. Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland will also face the same measures.

These eight countries are all members of NATO.

A reporter from NBC asked Trump if he would really carry out these tariff threats. Trump replied, "I will. 100% I will."

Trump continued: "Europe should focus on the war between Russia and Ukraine, because to be honest, you all have witnessed what this war has brought to them... This war is the issue that Europe should be concerned about, not Greenland."

When asked whether he would seize Greenland by force, Trump replied: "No comment."

Denmark has warned that the US military operations in Greenland will lead to the end of NATO.

Some NATO member states dispatched a small number of soldiers to Greenland last week, which was regarded as a symbolic gesture of support for Greenland. Subsequently, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on eight NATO allies.

NATO Secretary-General Ruttner said on the 19th that he, Danish Defense Minister Børsen and Greenlandic Autonomous Government Foreign Minister Motsfelt discussed the issue of Arctic security at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Rutte wrote on X: "We discussed the importance of the Arctic region, including Greenland, to our collective security, as well as how Denmark is increasing investment in key capabilities." He said: "As allies, we will continue to work together on these important issues."

After meeting with Rutte, Poulsen disclosed that Denmark proposed that NATO conduct surveillance activities on the Greenland island and hoped to receive support from the Arctic islands. Poulsen said in an interview with Danish television: "We have made this proposal. Secretary Rutte is aware of our thoughts. We hope that now we can formulate a specific implementation framework for this."
