Cambodia accused the Thai military of making statements that violated the ceasefire agreement. Thailand denied this and said the relevant remarks were not provocative.
Xinhua News Agency reported that on Monday (August 11), the spokesperson of the Thai Army, Van Thai, said that the remarks made by the commander of the Second Military Region, Van Thai, in an interview with the media on Sunday (August 10) did not mention the plan to use military force on the disputed temple, and it was not "provocative" as claimed by the Cambodian side.
Wen Tai explained that the content mentioned by Wen Xin refers to the fact that the disputed temple is within the sovereignty of Thailand. During the previous conflict, the Thai side had attempted to seize the temple through military deployment but failed. Therefore, the Thai army is currently stationed 30 meters outside the temple. In the future, the temple must also be brought back under Thai jurisdiction through appropriate procedures.
Wen Xin also indicated at that time that he would prepare to discuss and negotiate various matters within the framework of the regional border committee to be held within two weeks, and reaffirmed that Thailand would not withdraw from its current line of presence.
However, according to Thai media reports, Wen Xin said on Sunday that the Thai side is considering imposing a blockade on one of the temples to prevent Cambodian entry and is determined to recapture another temple where the Cambodian side has the upper hand.
Cambodian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Mari Sukchida criticized this, saying that Wen Xin's statement mentioned the military operation plan related to Cambodia, which violated the ceasefire agreement reached by the two countries.
Due to disputes over the ownership of temples and other issues, conflicts broke out between Thailand and Cambodia in the border area starting from July 24th, and later a ceasefire agreement was reached. According to the data released by both sides, the conflict has caused over a hundred casualties and more than 100,000 people have been evacuated to safe areas.
On August 7th, Thailand and Cambodia reached a consensus on the details of the ceasefire and signed an agreement at a special meeting of the General Committee on the Border between the two countries held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two countries agreed to maintain the current status of military deployment and committed not to send more troops to the border.
