The Israeli military said on Tuesday that it had launched an attack on Hezbollah targets in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

AFP reported that the Israeli military issued a statement on Tuesday (March 3rd) saying: "The Israel Defense Forces are currently conducting operations against the Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities in Beirut."

The Israeli army has warned that it will continue to carry out military operations against Hezbollah.

The Hezbollah in Lebanon is the most powerful armed organization supported by Iran. The support provided by Iran, including financial assistance, deployment of the Revolutionary Guard Corps and provision of training, has played a significant role in the establishment and development of Hezbollah.

The Hezbollah has always been a significant military and political force in the southern part of Lebanon, which borders Israel. With the support of Iran, Hezbollah rose to prominence during the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990) and opposed Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and its subsequent occupation of the southern part of Lebanon for 18 years. During the Syrian Civil War (2011-2024), Hezbollah sent troops to Syria to assist the government of then-President Assad. Assad was a long-time ally of Iran.
