The Israeli military has withdrawn from Gaza's Nazarim corridor as part of a ceasefire agreement.
"The Israeli army has dismantled its positions and military posts and completely removed its tanks from the Netzarim Corridor, allowing free movement of vehicles in both directions," a Hamas official said on Sunday, AFP reported.
Israel's withdrawal from the corridor Sunday came a day after the fifth hostage swap between Hamas and Israel. Hamas released three Israeli hostages in exchange for 183 Palestinian prisoners.
In an important development in the ceasefire agreement, Israel reopened the road at the end of January, but only to northbound traffic, allowing people fleeing Gaza to cross the corridor and return to their homes in northern Gaza.
With the withdrawal of the army, residents in the north can now also travel to the south through the corridor.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023, the Israeli military has isolated northern Gaza from southern Gaza by reinforcing this corridor.
