Trump is 100% certain that the United States and Europe will reach a trade agreement

US President Trump and Italian Prime Minister Meloni are both confident that the United States and Europe will be able to reach a trade agreement before the 90-day deadline for the United States to suspend the implementation of reciprocal tariffs.

Reuters reported that after meeting with Meloni in the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday (April 17), Trump told the media that he was 100% sure that the United States would eventually reach a trade agreement with Europe.

This is Trump's most confident speech on trade negotiations with various countries since he announced the reciprocal tariff measures.

Under Trump's reciprocal tariff policy, the United States will impose a 25% import tariff on steel, aluminium and automobiles from the 27 member states of the European Union, and impose broader tariffs on almost all other goods to deal with countries that he believes have set high barriers to American imports.

Trump said, "Of course we will reach a trade agreement. They very much hope to reach an agreement." We will reach a trade agreement with them. I'm completely confident. And this will be a fair agreement.

Meloni, who plays the middleman between Europe and the United States, is also full of confidence. She indicated that she was unable to finalize an agreement for the entire European Union, but her candid conversation with Trump would help defuse the trade disputes that have strained relations between the United States and Europe.

Meloni said, "I believe we can definitely reach an agreement. I'm here precisely to facilitate the agreement between the two sides."

After the luncheon, Trump and Meloni sat side by side in the oval office and spent a lot of time answering many questions from reporters.

Both Trump and Meloni talked about their respective tough positions on diversity and inclusion policies as well as immigration issues. Meloni said that Trump has accepted her invitation and will pay an official visit to Italy in the near future, and is considering meeting with EU representatives during the visit.

Trump has a cold attitude towards many European leaders, but he has a close relationship with Meloni, a 48-year-old conservative. Meloni was the only EU leader invited to Trump's inauguration ceremony in January.

Trump said on Thursday that Meloni was "very special" and called her a "friend". U.S. officials said that Meloni is a "valuable interlocutor" between the United States and Europe.

Meloni will receive US Vice President Vance in Rome on Friday (the 18th).
